The Net Zero Energy Project construction works began in November 2024. The installation of the District Heat Network is complete and the construction of Energy Centre 2 at southeast campus is almost complete. The majority of new pipework has been installed to the facades of several buildings and this will connect them to the new heat network. Internal upgrades, including the replacement of existing gas boilers with new, more efficient systems, are also in progress. All works associated with this project are planned for completion by early 2027. Visit the Net Zero Energy Project webpages for more information and the latest work updates.
From early July 2026 until late February 2027, roof replacements and remedial works will take place at Grizedale College, Physics and County South. The works aim to improve energy efficiency, enhance health and safety and address ongoing maintenance issues. The works will include the installation of new handrails, windows and walkways.
Work will take place to the west end of the Grizedale College building. Scaffolding will be erected around the building (Co-Op side), which may create noise disruption. Some localised noise is also expected while the roof replacement work is carried out. The contractor's site cabins and skips will be situated at the top of Pendle Avenue. Access in and out of the building will be maintained at all times. No work will take place during Graduation week.
Scaffolding will be erected around the single storey Physics building on Physics Avenue, which may create some noise. Some localised noise is also expected while the roof replacement work is carried out. The contractor's site cabins and skips will be situated on Physics Avenue, in a number of parking spaces. Access in and out of the building will be maintained at all times.
Scaffolding will be erected around the southeast corner of the building, which may cause some noise disruption. Some localised noise is also expected while the roof replacement work is carried out. The contractor's site cabins and skips will be situated on the behind the Chemistry building (at the end of cTAP) and at the top of John Creed Avenue. Access in and out of the building will be maintained at all times.
A will be in place between the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (FHASS) building and County South residences (House 77 Rivington) for the duration of the works due to the erection of scaffolding and a hoist. A fully accessible diversion route and signage will be in place. All other pedestrian routes in the area will remain in place.
Essential access control works will be taking place at the following campus laundrettes until October 2026 to upgrade the door access systems:
Barker House Farm (Alexandra Park) Laundrette
Lonsdale Laundrette
Pendle Laundrette
Grizedale Laundrette
County South Laundrette
County Main Laundrette
The works will be carried out in phases and access to the laundrettes will be maintained throughout.
From early September to late September 2026, external redecoration works to windows and doors will take place at the Chaplaincy building.
The building will remain open throughout the works. The first-floor flats will remain occupied with services continuing as normal and fire exits fully accessible. Building users may notice some general noise and dust while the works are underway.
The contractor will work around events taking place in the building and the Project Manager will share a schedule of works with staff and residents. All works are expected to be completed by the end of September 2026.
From early June until February 2027, Bailrigg House, a Grade II listed building on North Campus, will be undergoing an extensive programme of external repairs.
During the roofing works, access will remain to A and B Floors, but there will be no access to C Floor teaching spaces or offices. Staff offices will temporarily relocate to Bowland Main B106-B124, including the breakout areas.
Access will be maintained to Bailrigg House garage, The Croft, and for waste collection services.
There will be limited parking outside Bailrigg House for the duration of the works. Staff are advised to park on North Drive where possible.
There are no works planned for the northern annexe of Bailrigg House, but this space will be used by the contractor for welfare purposes.
There will be some noise and disruption during the erection of scaffolding and building works.
From Monday 28 September until December 2026, the foyer on A Floor of Charles Carter will be undergoing refurbishment to provide new study and breakout facilities for the School of Mathematical Sciences.
The planned work has been split into two phases so access can be maintained through the foyer to teaching space, the rear stairs, lifts and toilets. The seating area in the foyer will be temporarily closed.
The seminar rooms, Digital Immersion Suite and LUNOS facilities on A Floor will remain operational.
As part of the works, the Amazon Hub Locker (Damien) will be removed from Charles Carter and permanently relocated outside Fylde College.
From early August until the end of October 2026, window and door replacement works will take place at the Pre-School.
To help minimise disruption, most of the work will take place at weekends, and the Pre-School will remain fully open with day-to-day activities continuing as normal.
Some general building noise may be noticeable during weekend working. A contractor compound will be set up in the parking bays at the end of the parent drop-off bays on South Drive for the duration of the works. This is not anticipated to cause any issues with Pre-School parent parking.
View the Site Compounds Plan, which shows where site compounds associated with the summer works will be located.
